KNUTSFORD Heritage Centre has seen a welcome boost in visits thanks to the RHS Tatton Flower Show.

The historic information hub, on King Street, was happy to welcome people from across the country to view its exhibitions as they visited the area.

Priding itself on its King Canute display, the Heritage Centre was happy to teach people more about the town’s origins.

Val Bryant, Heritage Centre Trustee responsible for exhibitions and archives, said: “The perennial complaint is that routing Flower Show traffic away from the town diminishes the benefits of having such a big attraction on our doorstep.

“Certainly as far as the Heritage Centre is concerned, this year we fared better. Visitors were particularly intrigued by our current King Canute ‘Conquest of England’ exhibition, and all the more so on learning that next year marks the thousandth anniversary of Canute becoming King of England.”

The increased awareness of the Heritage Centre has come at just the right time, as the town gears up to celebrate the Canute Millennial in 2016.

The centre is highly involved with the celebration, and is working on numerous plans to commemorate the occasion in conjunction with the town council.

As well as staging a special exhibition, the Heritage Centre is hoping to arrange community-wide sports, arts and crafts events to encouraging businesses to produce special edition ‘2016 Canute Millennial’ products.
