ORGANISERS of an innovative two-day folk festival in Goostrey are looking to recruit an army of volunteers to ensure the event runs smoothly.

'Folk at the Marquee', which is part of this year’s Goosfest, will be held on the school field over the weekend of October 10 and 11 and has attracted some top folk acts from around the country.

The Goosfest organisers are looking to recruit a number of volunteers to help set up on Friday, October 9 and dismantle on Monday, October 12 as well as helping at the event on the Saturday and Sunday.

Jobs will include marshalling the parking, ticketing and crowd control.

Peter Seroczynski, one of the organisers, said: “We believe this two day bonanza will be a very special occasion and we are expecting up to 250 festival goers each day so we will need a lot of support to ensure everything runs like clockwork.

"Therefore, if people could spare a few hours it would be very much appreciated. As always with this kind of event it is a case of the more the merrier.

“'Folk at the Marquee' promises to a real treat for folk music fans but we have deliberately made the line up as varied as possible in order to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

“Since its humble beginnings in 2006 we have always tried to push the envelope and we are justly proud that Goosfest is now one of the best music and arts festivals in the north west and we are confident that 'Folk in the Marquee' will take us to a whole new level.”

'Folk at the Marquee' will feature five acts on Saturday culminating with award-winning singer songwriter Jez Lowe, while the top of the bill on Sunday will be Edwina Hayes, who appeared at Goosfest in 2013 to rave reviews.

The other artists on Saturday will include: The Slippery Hill Boys; Pauline Alexander and Howden Jones while Sunday’s line up will incorporate Robert Lane; Sunjay; Boo Hewerdine and Wingin’ It.
