TATTON Park Scout Campsite was invaded on July 18 and 19 by 50 Cubs and Beavers from 1st Goostrey Scout Group, who spent the weekend on pirate-themed activities during their annual camp.

More than 80 per cent of the Cubs and Beavers from Goostrey attended the two-day event supported by more than 20 leaders and parent helpers and three young leaders.

The children took part in a variety of activities such as bell-boating, orienteering, chasing the sea monster, creating pirate flags, swords and hats and backwoods cooking.

They competed in groups with names such as ‘Blackbeards’ and ‘Shark Baits’.

Camp organiser and Beaver Leader, Margaret Weeks, said: “This year’s camp was a huge success. The children all thoroughly enjoyed the activities organised by the leaders, and the support provided by parent helpers has been tremendous.

“The success of this camp is testimony to the enthusiasm within all the sections of 1st Goostrey Scouts.”

1st Goostrey Scouts is fundraising for a Scout Hut and Youth Facility in the centre of the village.

The group has never had a permanent home of its own, and as the fastest-growing Scout group in the District with more than 100 Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, the need for a building in which to hold meetings and provide facilities for other young people in the village has never been greater.
