A COMMUNITY group that looks to promote one of Knutsford's favourite green spaces is inviting the town to head down for an annual event next week.

The new committee of the Friends of the Moor in Knutsford will be hosting the annual play day celebration for families on Wednesday, August 5 between 2pm and 4pm.

A range of free pop-up activities for everyone to enjoy will be on offer, including arts and crafts, science experiments, sports activities and outdoor games, storytelling and music.

They will be joined by friends from Knutsford Leisure Centre, the library service, the town's children’s centre, Scibar, Knutsford Town Council and the emergency services – assuming they are not called out.

Debbie Jamison, chair of Friends of the Moor, said: "We are also planning a few non-human surprises, courtesy of Stockley Farm and Lower Moss Wood. Knutsford Lions will be helping us out as well.

"You could build a rocket, take a selfie in the Mayor’s chair, fly a bird, see an animal, play games, make a hat, create a picture and run around or stand still or watch everything going on from the play area.

"You will definitely meet lots of Friends of the Moor who would like to listen to any ideas anyone may have to maintain and develop the Moor as a public open space for the future."

The Friends of the Moor is a group of people in Knutsford who have volunteered to work together to promote the use of the Moor as a public open space for leisure and recreation in a clean and safe environment.

The group provides a link between the local community and the landowners Cheshire East Council, with the group established in 2005 following the Parks Strategy published by Macclesfield Borough Council in January 2003.
