KNUTSFORD Crown Court has officially been put on the market.

Acting on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, Bilfinger GVA Manchester have been instructed to sell the iconic Grade II* Listed Sessions House building on Toft Road.

Built in 1818 and designed by renowned architect George Moneypenny, The Sessions House is a three-storey Georgian property of sandstone block and column construction, with original internal and external crown court features, including high decorated ceilings and wood panelled walls.

The building comprises 18,500 sq ft within a 0.82 acre site. In addition a car park fronts the building with space for up to 25 cars.

Bilfinger GVA, the sole agent for the building, is marketing the freehold of the Sessions House in its current original form and will be seeking interest from potential purchasers for a range of alternate uses.

It was announced in June 2014 that the building would no longer hold criminal cases and earlier this year Wright Marshall's expressed an interest in moving in to the building for its auction business, which is currently located in Church Hill.

David Thwaites, associate, Bilfinger GVA, said: “The Sessions House offers a unique opportunity to own and become the guardian of an historical building within the heart of Knutsford Town Centre.

"In view of the buildings undoubted character and history coupled with its prominent location we are anticipating a high level of demand for a wide range of alternate uses.”

Bilfinger GVA is now inviting offers from purchasers on behalf of The Ministry of Justice.

The Guardian asked how much the property would be listed for but was told the figure was not available.
