BEXTON Primary School’s beloved pet chicken has scooped up an award at this year’s Cheshire County Show.

Winnie, who is one of two chickens kept by the school, bagged second place in the Pet Chicken Category at this year’s show.

The chickens have been a hit at the school since it received funding for a Chicken Coop from the Ernest Cook Trust.

Wendy Snook, a teacher at Bexton Primary, decided to enter the chickens into the show, as well as start a chicken art competition for the whole school to get involved.

She said: “We had a fantastic day at the Cheshire Show. It was an excellent learning experience for the 3 pupils who won the art competition and all of year four who were at the show on a school trip.

The pupils wowed judges in the Cheshire Show Chicken art club with Lucy Howarth winning first prize, Joe Gaskell bagging runner up and Alex and Jamie Angus securing an impressive third place.

Wendy said: “We are really looking forward to attending next year. We are so proud of the children and chickens. Winnie may have won a prize but to us all our chickens are winners."
