MARIE Curie’s annual summer ‘Walk to Remember’ event has now opened for registration.

Last year saw over 700 walkers take part in the twilight 10k around Tatton Park and the charity are hoping to have such a positive turnout for 2015.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday August 8 at 6.30pm, and Marie Curie are encouraging friends, relatives and even pets to come and take part.

The Walk to Remember is open to those who want to walk in memory of someone special to them, or those who want to help raise funds for local people suffering with terminal illnesses.

Nadia Jackson, a Marie Curie volunteer who took part in the walk last year, said: “I loved being a marshal at last year's Walk to Remember at Tatton Park.

“It was great to find out the personal reasons why people were walking for Marie Curie and I loved the uplifting and fun atmosphere.”

After the evening hike, there will be celebrations in the park, with live entertainment and a fireworks display at 10pm to coincide with the beginning of the Marie Curie nurses’ night shift.

The nurses provide care to people with terminal illnesses and their families in the comfort of their own homes.

Community Fundraiser Katherine Howell said: ‘Last year it was so moving to see so many families, friends and loved ones join together for Marie Curie and walk in memory of lost loved ones.

“The walkers raised over £40,000 in sponsorship in 2014, which helped us provide 2,000 hours of nursing care.

“This year’s walk is going to be even bigger and better!  So come and join us for a truly magical night.”

Walkers are encouraged to try and raise at least £100, which pays for five hours of nursing care.

With that, Walk to Remember will raise enough money to care for even more people living with terminal illnesses and provide support to their families.

This year Simplyhealth have sponsored the event. Mark Hamson, spokesperson for Simplyhealt, said: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Walk to Remember in Cheshire. Marie Curie nurses provide vital support and care to people living with a terminal illness and their families.
