THIS weekend sees Tatton Singers summer gala concert taking place.
Every June Tatton Singers gives a summer concert - traditionally a lighter programme than some of the major choral works the choir performs at other times of the year.
This year their concert takes place on Saturday, June 20 and is a varied programme - ranging from British composers Purcell and Stanford to the highly popular contemporary American Eric Whitacre.
The choir will also perform a chorus from Beethoven's opera Fidelio, folksong arrangements, a delightfully quirky re-telling of the 'Alice' story, even some jazz.
Conducted by John Powell and accompanied by Tim Kennedy (who will contribute a solo by the great British pianist Billy Mayerl) the choir will be singing in St John's Church starting at 7.30pm. The church, recently re-ordered and redecorated, is now an impressive concert venue - warm, light, bright and welcoming, and with a very good acoustic.
The whole concert will last about 70 minutes, followed by a buffet.
Tickets cost £12, £10 concession and students £5, they are available from 01565 650641, choir members and on the door.
And after the summer concert Tatton Singers will be preparing for their next performance - on July 4, as part of the Knutsford Promenades.
Looking further ahead, Tatton Singers will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in their 2015/16 season with two spectacular concerts - Bach's Mass in B Minor in November and Mozart's Requiem next March, both with orchestra.
