LAST year’s town mayor has announced that the town managed to raise over £10,000 last year for the mayor’s chosen charities.

Cllr Neil Forbes, who ended his term of office on Monday when new mayor, Cllr Tony Dean was elected in, has thanked Knutsfordians for their generosity.

The former mayor dedicated his time to generating money for Knutsford GROW, a charitable organisation who lend a green hand to the town’s elderly and disabled in looking after their gardens.

Cllr Forbes, who also donated the money St John’s Wood Lunch Club, organised a whole range of events, which were well-attended by Knutsford residents.

As part of his fundraising activities, the mayor took part in numerous ‘Munch with the Mayor’ events, the ‘Great Knutsford Bake-Off’, ‘Knutsford’s got the Talent Factor’ and a mayor pub quiz.

At Monday’s mayor making event, Cllr Forbes announced that the total amount raised by residents and local businesses came to £10,504.84.

He said: “Thank you to everyone who ate, baked, raffled, sponsored, performed, judged, contributed, donated, quizzed and rocked to raise a staggering amount for my two local causes – it will make such a difference, not only to the day-to-day working of the charities, but also to the lives of those they help and support.”

The mayor’s final fundraiser was his charity ball sponsored by Wright Marshall. The ball, named ‘Rock with the Mayor’ saw entertainment from former councillor, Peter Raynes, and an impromptu performance from MC Peter Murray of On the Pulse of Perfumery.

The new mayor, Cllr Tony Dean has announced that he will be raising money for the Salvation Army and Knutsford District Scouts.
