A KNUTSFORD scout group is hoping to be a vote winner in a grant competition organised by a leading insurance company.

1st Knutsford Scouts is in the midst of fundraising for a new hut on the Moor, where its current headquarters stand.

And to help them they need the town's votes via a competition run by Aviva.

The prize for the winner is £25,000.

The group needs to raise £160,000 in total to build a safe, sturdy and future proof building so that we can continue to serve the community and provide education and support to our young people but the funds requested here would pay specifically for the kitchen and toilet facilities including a boiler for heating and hot water.

Jonathon Hills, beaver leader, nominated the group for the award.

In its profile on the Aviva site, the group said: "Not only would a new hut enable us to carry on the valuable work of educating the young people and giving them experiences they just wouldn't otherwise get - and keep them away from things with a screen or internet connection for a while - it will also enable us to also allow other community groups, particularly youth groups, to meet in comfort and safety all year round.

"The old hut has served us well and is still beloved by the older members of the organisation, but because of it's condition has to be replaced and any and all help is and will be gratefully received."
