A KNUTSFORD entrepreneur has set off on a charity cross-continental challenge, in a car costing less than £500.

Matthew Sanders, CEO of Brookfield Rose, is taking his team on ‘The Rusty Rally’ tour, driving through seven countries in three days across mountainous terrain.

The road challenge, which is reminiscent of a Top Gear special, will see both of Mr Sander’s teams travelling through the UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

The group set off yesterday, and must make it to their destination at Lake Como in Italit

He said: “This marks our second year of supporting and raising funds for The Outward Bound Trust, in what is a quirky take on a European car rally.

“The Rusty Rally challenge will undoubtedly be a bumpy ride in our old and rusty car, but will be great fun as we navigate some of the world’s most famous roads and high mountain passes.

Brookfield Rose are hoping to raise up to £10,000 for The Outward Bound Trust, an educational charity which aims to use outdoor activities to help develop young people from all walks of life.

Mr Sanders has entered two cars in the competition, Team Zoek and Team Paraplus, to represent each aspect of his business.

He has taken the wheel of one of the mediocre motors, and is joined by another five of his staff.

Mr Sanders said: “Over the years, the Brookfield Rose group has taken part in countless charitable activities; we are passionate about giving something back. I founded The Brookfield Rose Trust early this year to support the work done by charities in helping children and young adults to get a second chance at life. The Rusty Rally provided a perfect opportunity to raise even more money, on a new adventure”.
