KNUTSFORD Deanery Mother’s Union is helping to offer a friendly face to ill children when they’re in need of an ambulance.

The Union has donated 50 teddies, knitted by their members, to North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) NHS Trust.

The motivation for the group was to give something back to their local community and to help children in traumatic situations.

The group spent several weeks knitting teddies which are all sealed in polythene bags and made from fire retardant material. Sheila Rayner, Deanery Leader, said: “It was an idea that we had, and decided we wanted to do something for children in our local community.

“Originally we sent trauma teddies out to Eastern Europe including Romania. Over the years, we wanted to try and help the children in our surrounding area.

“We’ve spent weeks knitting several of these teddies for the ambulance service so they can give them to children. Each one has been individually crafted so no two are the same.”

Julian Daniel, assistant operations manager for NWAS at Macclesfield station, said: “This kind and thoughtful donation will make such a difference to children in distressing situations.

“Needing an ambulance or medical attention can be a scary thought, and it is a huge benefit to have one of these available to give to the children to help them.”

Sheila added: “We hope it will make a difference, and we can always make more if required.”
