BOSLEY Tug of War Club recently held a competition in Mobberley, with teams from as far afield as York, Gloucester and Somerset taking part in the event.

The competition formed part of the Tug of War Association annual list of tug of war fixtures with many of the teams competing at the event looking to challenge for national titles in June.

In total, 19 tug of war clubs took part in the event across a range of different weight categories for men’s teams, ladies teams and junior teams. The results of the day were spread out with teams from Felton Eccles (Somerset), Norton (Staffordshire), Longridge (Lancashire), Lincoln making the finals of the men’s weight classes, and the teams from Gloucester ACF, Bedford and Kilroe (Lancashire) making the finals of the ladies and youth weight classes.

As for the home team Bosley, they were just one point away from making the final in the mens 600 kilos competition and gave a good account of themselves in the other weight classes as they look to improve on a good 2014 season, which saw them reach the final of the national tug of war championships.

“We had a great day,” said Bosley spokesman Alan Knott.

“We had everything you could ask for; good weather, a great turnout of teams and supporters and great competition."

Bosley will be running some more local tug of war events later in the year, including their annual charity tug of war in aid of the East Cheshire Hospice in July, as well as helping to run this years’ tug of war competition at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair at Peover Park on Sunday, August 16.
