GEORGE Osborne was given a warm welcome by a Knutsford scout group when he was shown its grand plans for the future.

Mr Osborne visited 1st Knutsford Scouts based on the Moor on Friday, March 27 and was shown around by by Rob Allen, group Scout leader, and many Cubs, Beavers and Scouts.

George asked the children to show their Scout promise and members talked him through the group's fundraising, showing him the group's new banner.

He enjoyed learning more about the plans for the future for the group and how it plans to build a new headquarters on the current site.

He was shown a model that is being used to demonstrate how the new hall will be larger by combining what are currently two rooms into one, with windows letting in light and with views over the Moor.

Michele Hammond, fundraising co-ordinator for the new HQ, said: "He was presented with a neckerchief by Rob Lyons, Scout leader and was genuinely touched and happy with this gesture.

"Many families were in attendance and even babies were keen to be part of the day. George proved to be a family man answering all our questions and having a great sense of humour with everyone and being very generous with his time.

"Mr Osborne told us he would definitely like to support 1st Knutsford Scouts and he even did a tweet about us after his visit which was all very exciting."

Mr Osborne, the Conservative PPC for Tatton, told the Guardian the project for the new headquarters had his 'full backing'.

“The plans for the new building are really impressive and will benefit the entire community," he said.

"The project has my full backing and I would urge local residents and businesses to join in the fundraising campaign.”

The group has also produced an animation showing what the hut will look like when it has been built.
