A BBC radio legend is appealing for Knutsford's musical talent to enter a contest to win a slot to perform at this year's town beer festival.

The town enjoyed its first ever beer festival in 2014 and organisers are finalising details for this year's event that will be held on the weekend of April 24 to 25.

Plans for the festival are set to be announced in the next couple of weeks but in the run up to that, organisers are on the hunt for musical talent from the town and the surrounding area to entertain the drinkers.

Paul Langley, who helps run the 'LOL Cheshire' comedy nights in the town, has teamed up with BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music DJ – and Knutsford resident – Mark Radcliffe, to try and find some top musical talent to perform at the festival this year.

The duo want to find three local artists – either youngsters starting out or established acts – for the afternoon session of the beer festival on Saturday, April 25.

The acts, which can either be bands or singers, must have at least 30 to 40 minutes of material for each slot and all types of music are welcome to enter.

Mark Radcliffe told the Guardian that selecting the winner would be a 'tough decision'.

" It is great to be asked to judge the entries for the Saturday afternoon session at this years Knutsford Beer Festival," he said.

"We know that there are some very musically talented people in our town and to choose the winning acts will be a tough decision."

Paul added: "The idea is that the artists submit two songs via mp3 or links to YouTube and Soundcloud to myself.

"The entries will be judged by Mark and myself and announced two weeks before the beer festival."

Send your entries to Paul via email at paul@socialpromotions.co.uk. The closing date is Monday, April 6 and there is only one entry per artist.
