A GREENFIELD site south of Holmes Chapel could be the latest piece of Cheshire to be built on by a housing developer after plans were submitted to build 190 homes.

Gladman Developments has asked Cheshire East Council to approve plans for the site off London Road in the village.

The homes would be located south west of the proposed Sainsbury's superstore.

The planning statement, produced by the Congleton-based company, states: "Outline Planning Permission for up to 190 dwellings (including a minimum of 30 per cent affordable housing), 350sqm B1 employment use, structural planting and landscaping, informal public open space, children’s play area, surface water attenuation, and two vehicular access points from London Road and associated ancillary works.

"All matters to be reserved with the exception of the main site access."

Part of Gladman's submission is that it states Cheshire East Council can not show that it has a five-year supply of housing.

The application comes just a week after a planning inspector approved plans for 100 homes at Saltersford Corner and comes at a time when work is still being carried out to build homes on the former Fisons site further up London Road.

Earlier this month Persimmon Homes was given the green light to go ahead with 80 properties on land at Cottons Hall, off Middlewich Road in the village.

The planning statement added the new homes would meet the 'identified need' in the area.

"As a matter of principle, the proposed development is not in accordance with the policies of the Development Plan," it reads.

"However, the plan is out of date and inconsistent with government policy set in the National Planning Policy Framework.

"The development as proposed is sustainable and will help deliver the new homes needed to meet an identified local housing need, helping address a key economic and social priority for the government and Cheshire East Council."

Gladman said that following a grant of planning permission, the site would be marketed immediately and sold to one or more house builders who would submit the 'requisite reserved matters application'.

The council's strategic planning board will decide on the application at its meeting on March 18.
