SAINSBURY'S has told the Guardian that the planned superstore in Holmes Chapel will only go ahead if the times for the deliveries lorries are changed.

The new store, which will be located on the former Fisons site on London Road, will provide 260 car parking spaces, a recycling centre and petrol filling station – creating up to 175 new full and part-time jobs.

The site is next door to the current plot being built on by house builders Bloor and Bellway.

But the supermarket giant wants to amend the times of delivery of the lorries that will serve the store from the agreed 8am to 6am.

The application form on the planning application, submitted to Cheshire East Council, states: "To rectify a drafting error which has resulted in reference being made to hours of servicing which are not consistent with the terms of the resolution made by members of the Southern Planning Committee on March 12, 2014.

"The foodstore hereby approved shall not open to the general public before 7am nor after 11pm Mondays to Saturdays and not before 8am nor after 6pm on a Sunday. Deliveries to the foodstore shall not take place outside the hours of 6am to 11pm throughout the week and at weekends."

This week a spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said the store would still go ahead as long as the change in the delivery hours was passed by the council.

"We are working closely with Cheshire East Council to amend one of the conditions attached to the planning consent for our proposed foodstore," he said.

“The council has imposed a restriction on deliveries which we have applied to be lifted for the plans to move forward. We are awaiting confirmation from the council on a planning committee date.”

The application is expected to go before Cheshire East Council's Southern Planning Committee on Wednesday, February 25.
