DO YOU know someone who makes Knutsford a better place to live?

The Guardian has once again teamed up with Equilibrium Asset Management to find and reward people in our area who deserve to be named as a Knutsford Community Champion for 2015.

This year, we’re not looking for one hero, but two champions.

Our champions could be any age and you can enter more than one person in either the junior (under-18) or senior (18-plus) category.

What we want to know is: what do they do to make Knutsford a better place to live? Your nominee might be a charity fundraiser or help out with local recreational activities. They could be a volunteer or support their elderly neighbours or family members. In fact, they could do anything at all that you think benefits the Knutsford community.

Thanks to our partner, Equilibrium Assert Management, we have some brilliant prizes on offer.

The junior winner of the 2015 Community Champions will receive an iPad Mini plus £50 worth of iTunes vouchers to spend and our senior champion will receive £250 in cash. A further £300 will be paid to each charity or club of the winners’ choice.

There is also £50 up for grabs for each person who nominates the eventual champions, so it’s worth getting your nominations in.

Colin Lawson, managing partner of Equilibrium, said: “We’ve always felt the strong sense of pride local people have for Knutsford since we opened our office there in 2011. Every year we support the Guardian’s campaign, we’re overwhelmed with each entry we receive.

“Often what appears to be the smallest gesture can make a huge difference to people’s lives.

“We’re looking forward to backing this campaign once again and I can’t wait to read about the commendable things people do to help their friends, family and community.”

MP George Osborne also wants to hear who you think is a Community Champion, as well as Guardian editor, Carla Flynn and Knutsford Town Mayor Neil Forbes who will be judging the entries along with Colin.

We will be accepting nominations over the next five weeks after which we will publish a shortlist of nominees picked by our judging panel.

Mr Osborne said: “In my work as an MP I have met so many people who make Knutsford a brilliant place to live. The search for Knutsford’s Community Champions is a fantastic way to celebrate local people who give so much to our community. I hope everyone will get their thinking caps on and start nominating.”

Carla Flynn, editor of the Guardian, added: “We know about some of the selfless things people are doing in our community from the nominations we received last year.

“Just to be shortlisted in this competition is great recognition and nominating them for this award proves their actions don’t go unnoticed.

“Last year David Jones won the Knutsford Community Hero title for showing great dedication, generosity and kindness to the community over many years by giving up his time to help with local charities, the Lions and the Good Neighbours Scheme.

“This year not only do we want to hear about what the adults do for the community, but also about the younger members that put their time and effort in to make Knutsford such a lovely place to live. That’s why we’ve added the junior category.”

Nominating your community champion is simple.

Fill in the A5 form included as a leaflet in this week’s Guardian and send it, along with 250 words on why you believe your nominee should be crowned Community Champion 2015, to the Knutsford Guardian, 3 Theatre Court, London Road, Northwich, CW9 5HB.

You can also email nominations to champion@rmspr.co.uk or drop them off at the Knutsford Heritage Centre.

Forms can also be picked up from the Knutsford Heritage Centre, Egerton Youth Club on Mereheath Lane, the Equilibrium head office or downloaded by clicking here Knutsford Community Champions 2015 Application.pdf

Remember, you could win £50 just for making a nomination and there’s no age limit on who you can nominate. Nominees for the junior category must be under 17 and nominees for the senior category must be over 18.
