CHESHIRE East has been named the third best place in the country for a good or outstanding education.

According to Watchsted, a data service which tracks Ofsted results, 93.6 per cent of the 141 primary and secondary schools in the borough inspected under the watchdog’s 2012 framework were rated good or outstanding.

The only local authorities to rank higher in the whole of England were the City of London, where Ofsted inspected just one school, and the London Borough of Wandsworth, where 65 schools were rated.

The 13 Cheshire East schools which remain to be inspected in the current round were all rated either good or outstanding when Ofsted last visited them.

Alison Hooper, heateacher of Egerton Primary School, which is rated good, said: “The schools that I am involved in within Cheshire East work incredibly hard for every child in their school. Staff are committed and passionate about delivering a broad and balanced curriculum which is enriched with real learning experiences.

"This has become increasingly difficult in recent years with the radical and numerous changes placed upon schools.”

Cheshire East was one of only two authorities in the North West to feature in the top ten and was joined by Trafford, which ranked seventh.

Clr Rachel Bailey, Cheshire East’s cabinet member for safeguarding children and adults, said: “To have 93.6 per cent of our schools rated good or outstanding is a fantastic achievement.

“It reflects the efforts that have been made in our schools on bridging the attainment gap. I believe this has helped a lot with regard to the performance of our schools when Ofsted comes calling.

“I would like to thank the schools, teachers, governors, council officers and, of course, the pupils, for all their hard work.”
