CALLOUS thieves stole a haul of almost 500 model train and accessories from a High Legh business just days before Christmas.

Police are appealing for information following an overnight raid at High Legh Garden Centre, Halliwells Brow, on Saturday December 20.

The thieves targeted Hornby model railway equipment and accessories and a total of 492 items were stolen, with an estimated value of £5,540.

PC Mike Dawber, of the Knutsford Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Whoever was responsible did seem to pay particular attention to stealing Hornby model railway equipment which is believed to run into several thousands of pounds in value.

"I am appealing to anyone who has any information which can assist with our enquiries, particularly any collectors who may have been offered the items for sale."

Hornby is a household name and is famous as the UK brand leader in the model railway hobby.

Hornby models are sought after collectors’ item and some of the items stolen during the raid have a retail price tag of up to £150.
