AN established Knutsford business that burst into bloom 15 years ago will close its doors for the final time this Christmas.

The Black Rose, on King Street, will shut up shop on Christmas Eve, coinciding with the retirement of proprietor Lynne Miller.

After many years running the successful business, Lynne decided to take a step away from the floral industry and pursue her passion for volunteering, working with disadvantaged children at home and abroad.

The 65-year-old said: “It’s time to move on. I have deliberated over the decision but I know it’s the right time for me.

“I have reached a point in my life where I want to slow down. I have about ten years of being active and energised and I want to use that time to do something else.”

Lynne, who used to work with the NSPCC, is hoping to take six months out to wind down and plan her next steps.

She said she would like to volunteer with children at home and overseas and is currently exploring the possibility of volunteering at an orphanage in India.

“It’s amazing what opportunities are out there,” she added. “I have already had one or two people suggest things to me – it is an interesting and exciting time.”

The Black Rose attracts customers from across Cheshire and has scooped numerous industry awards, such as gold medals at RHS Tatton and Chelsea.

Lynne, who also ran workshops at the floral design store, said that many of her customers have said how disappointed they are that the shop is closing for good but said she knows she is making the right move.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to our customers for all the support and encouragement over the years – it’s marvellous,” she said.

“The businesses as well, thank you very much for your support over the past 15 years.”
