HOLMES Chapel residents have queried the lack of public transport between the village and Knutsford town.

As it stands, there is no direct bus service between Holmes Chapel and Knutsford, which is eight miles away.

Public transport users can travel to Knutsford and vice versa via a 1-1.5 hour train and bus journey, routed through Wilmslow or Chelford.

If users were to solely rely on bus services, the journey time would be extended to almost three hours.

Some residents have questioned the lack of service, saying it leaves Holmes Chapel bus-users feeling isolated from the neighbouring town.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: “Cheshire East Council is keen to promote and encourage public transport, when and where it can, and continually reviews bus services in the borough. “Moreover the council financially supports several services when there is strong evidence of real need and the subsidy represents good value for money for the public purse. “There has been no bus service between Holmes Chapel and Knutsford for a number of years.

“However, it is possible to make the journey via public transport by catching a train from Holmes Chapel to Chelford and then Vale Travel bus service 27 from Chelford to Knutsford.

“This journey can be made in approximately 50 minutes, including a reasonable connection time at Chelford.

“With this public transport option available the council is not currently looking at introducing a direct bus service.”
