GOOSTREY Parish Council has approved in principle the transfer of half of the site of the derelict youth centre to 1st Goostrey Scouts for the construction of a new Scout hut.

Despite there being some more steps to go through before the land is officially handed over, it is very likely that following their meeting on December 9, the parish council will make the transfer at no charge to the Scouts.

The old Youth Centre is based on Main Road in Goostrey and this opportunity for the Scouts to build a new headquarters and youth facility will no doubt be very exciting.

David Giles, group Scout leader of 1st Goostrey Scouts, said: “It’s so exciting that we’ve finally got an opportunity to deliver a dedicated youth centre for all the generations to come.

“Instead of using cramped spaces where we can’t fit all our equipment, we will have a purpose built modern youth facility in the heart of the village for everyone to enjoy.”

The parish council are to sell the other half of the site for the construction of a single detached house, which release funds for community projects in the village.
