A COUPLE from Down Under have praised the ‘kind, honest and decent’ person who handed in a lost wallet to Knutsford Police Station.

Ian and Karen Whiteman, from Woolgoolga, New South Wales, were on a day visit to Knutsford last month when Ian discovered he had misplaced his wallet.

The Australian couple launched a search for the wallet but their efforts were in vain.

“We walked up and down the one way street of Knutsford in the hope it was lying along the street and footpath and checked in the top of the rubbish bins in case it had been discarded in one of the bins,” said Karen.

“My husband went into a number of shops to ask if by chance a wallet had been found and handed to a shop proprietor. We also returned to The Bells of Peover to have a search around.

“As we drove into the car park one of the staff members was searching the grounds and they had even been on hands and knees looking under tables inside. They were wonderful.”

As their search was fruitless, the couple headed to Knutsford Police Station to report it had been lost of perhaps stolen but to their surprise, someone had handed the wallet in - and nothing was missing.

“We just want to express our sincere thanks to the very kind, honest and decent person who found the wallet and conveyed it to the local Police Station,” said Karen. “We were so greatly appreciative of their actions.”
