CHRISTMAS preparations are under way at a country home near Knutsford which will take visitors back in time for the festive season.

Among the events planned for Arley Hall and Gardens this December are a Christmas Floral Extravaganza, floristry displays and Christmas trees decorated by Cheshire's schoolchildren.

Florists and floristry students will use traditional flowers and plant materials to deck the hall and decorations will be inspired by, or use, plants from the award-winning gardens.

This is part of a tradition that dates back hundreds of years.

“We are creating a traditional and authentic Christmas with carols, candlelight and seasonal magic,” said Helen Robinson, events manager at Arley Hall and Gardens.

“Everyone who visits will receive a warm welcome and I am sure will be won over by Arley’s charm and character.”

The Edwardian-themed Christmas Floral Extravaganza runs from Saturday, December 6, to Thursday, December 11.

On December 8 and December 10 visitors can see the hall by candlelight between 6pm and 9pm for the carol evenings, priced £9.

TV florist Carl Wilde will be demonstrating his craft at 2pm on December 9.

Admission is £13.50, including hall entry, and booking is essential.

Schools will decorate Christmas trees, which will light up the Cruck Barn, and the restaurant will sell traditional festive food.
