A PLUCKY pooch has been voted Holmes Chapel-based Cheshire Pet’s Brave Pet.

Oscar Roach was recently presented with a ‘Brave Pet’ medal from vet Edward Davies after overcoming a tough couple of months.

The 14-year-old Border Terrier had to have his gall bladder removed after eagle-eyed vet Liz discovered the quieter-than-usual Oscar was suffering from a rare disorder Biliary Mucocele.

Owner Mary Roach, from Holmes Chapel, thanked the Cheshire Pet team for making the diagnosis and whisking him to theatre just in time.

“It was an insidious problem and because the Border Terrier is a stoical breed they don’t show they are in discomfort until it’s serious,” she added. “Thankfully he was able to be operated on before it was too late.

"For a number of days after the operation he wouldn’t eat, then he took a small drink, it was a gradual recovery before he was given the all clear, but he hasn’t looked back.”

Vet Edward said that Oscar had been through a lot but that he soldiered on.

“We really don’t see many cases like this and well done to Liz our vet for spotting the signs,” he said.

“It’s a pleasure to see Oscar as he should be, a happy and lively little dog, he has had to be tough, but he was determined and we think he deserves his award.”
