YOUNG Knutsfordians will be rewarded for their volunteering efforts in the community thanks to the introduction of a new scheme.

Next month, Knutsford Lions will be launching a new venture called ‘Young Leaders in Service’, in collaboration with Knutsford Town Council.

As part of the scheme, youngsters, from 11 to 18 years, will be able to log their hours of service over a year.

Those who dedicate 50 hours of their time will earn a Silver award and those who give 100 hours to helping in the community will earn a Gold award.

Certificates will be presented by the Knutsford Town Mayor and the Lions President at an annual celebration, to which family members will be invited.

Knutsford Town Mayor Clr Neil Forbes said: “This exciting new scheme will give our younger residents an additional opportunity to have their good deeds recognised as well as embedding altruistic actions at the start of their life’s journeys.”

A wide range of activities will qualify, including litter picking, helping the elderly with IT problems, and caring for others.

Lions President Peter Willgoose said: “Knutsford Lions are delighted to join forces with Knutsford Town Council in promoting a scheme that will encourage young people to help others in the community.

“Lions members know the satisfaction that is gained in doing just that, so there will be benefit for all concerned.”

The Young Leaders in Service scheme will formally launch at the Town Council Offices at 7.30pm on Tuesday November 4.

Mike Goldman, the Lions Young Leaders in Service team leader, said: “Knutsford Lions started the Knutsford Talking Newspaper and our Good Neighbours service years ago. This new venture will engage young people in the community and help to form wider bonds across the good folk of Knutsford.

“Please don’t miss out on this opportunity and get involved.”
