RENOWNED author and poet Michael Rosen had primary school children in fits of laughter with his hilarious talk.

Michael visited Egerton Primary School in Knutsford as part of the Knutsford Literature Festival, and was a huge hit with the children and teachers.

The event was aimed at year four children, and pupils from local primary schools had been invited to join in the fun.

A passionate champion of children’s literacy, Michael’s approach to learning is exciting, interactive, adventurous and playful.

“Our school hall was filled with children, from Bexton, St Vincents, Manor Park and Yorston Lodge schools,” said Egerton head teacher Alison Hooper.

“I decided to squeeze in our year three, five and six children as well, as it was too good an opportunity to miss, and Michael did not disappoint.

“Within the first five minutes of his presentation he had all of the children, and adults, in fits of laughter.

“He hardly stopped to take a breath in a full hour, and captivated us all with his stories, poems, actions and sound effects.

“He cleverly told stories about people’s behaviour, and I was aware of the children mouthing his exact words as he had suddenly brought into the story one of his poems which they obviously recognised and were familiar with.”

She said Knutsford Library staff put together a “fantastic” display of Michael’s books at the event, as well as books from similar authors.

“After the presentation he very kindly agreed to my request to visit reception and classes in year one and two,” said Mrs Hooper.

“He very quickly had those children giggling too with his antics, and had them recounting the much-loved story of ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’.

“The following morning I was overwhelmed by so many parents coming to tell me about their children recounting Michael’s poetry and stories at home – Knutsford Library is going to be very busy!”

The same evening as the Egerton school visit Michael was at Leicester Warren Hall to give a talk based around his new book, Good Ideas – How to be your child’s (and your own) Best Teacher.
