WORK to resurface Mobberley Road in Knutsford should finish today, although a stop/go system will operate for a further week while road markings are laid.

Work was switched last week from daytime to evening because of threats towards traffic management staff from motorists frustrated by congestion caused by the closure of Mobberley Road.

A Cheshire East Council spokesman said: “The closures should finish by Wednesday morning (today), with all the new surface laid.

“This will leave a proportion of the road markings to finish, which will take about a week, but will not involve closing the road, and there should be minimal disruption to road users by operating a stop/go traffic sign system.”

The working hours were switched to 6pm to 10pm, but Mobberley Road resident Mike Owens complained to the council that work had finished at midnight and 1.30am last Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

“Feedback from the public via our site supervisors has been very positive regarding the night working and the road improvement,” added the spokesman.

“Regarding the complaint about late finishing, this was due to mechanical breakdown with suppliers, which resulted in the late delivery of key materials. We apologise for any disruption caused to local people.”
