KNUTSFORD road users and residents could be thrust into traffic chaos as one of the most important roads in town is set to close for eight working days.

From Monday, Mobberley Road will be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm every working day until October 8 to allow for resurfacing to be carried out by Cheshire East Highways.

The resurfacing scheme was originally planned to start this Friday but was delayed until Monday due to lack of signage. The road will be open outside of the aforementioned hours.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council (CEC) said: “We will be dropping letters off to all residents along the affected road and the roads that are only accessible off Mobberley Road.

“The work will start at the traffic lights end, with Brook Street, and progress up Mobberley Road, up to the car showroom, over the eight days. So, in effect, if you split the road into eight equal lengths, that will give residents a good will give residents a good idea where they will be on each day.”

CEC will be employing a traffic management company to manage any issues around residents’ access.

Each resident who accesses on to the road itself will receive a letter to show the traffic management company they can gain access – this will then allow the resident to drive through the closure to and from their property.

However, if the workforce is between the resident and their property or access point, the resident will be asked to follow a diversion to the opposite end of the closure and enter there.

Any resident who can access their home or business from another point of entry will be sent to that point and will not receive a letter authorising them through the work.

“The work is to improve the overall environment for the residents who use this stretch of road and they need to be aware that to improve the road we need to do it safely,” added the council spokesperson.

“The work is programmed during off-peak times to alleviate the majority of the congestion. Unfortunately, given the type of work, there will still be some problems with traffic disruption, which is unavoidable.

“We thank residents and road users in advance for their patience.”
