A KNUTSFORD postman has left his job after a shop worker in the town alleged he had a camera on his foot in a bid to take a 'discreet' picture of her.

The postie who was based at the Parkgate sorting office has since left his role after the incident.

Royal Mail told the Guardian that the employee accused had left the business after the incident.

The postman was a familiar face among Knutsford's business owners and workers.

One business owner told the Guardian a staff member in the town rumbled the postie when he went in for a hug.

“He used to be really friendly and funny and I’m just dumbfounded, it has been a real shock,” he said.

“The girls at my place have always had cuddles off him and he was always in talking to them.

“During this incident he went into the shop and put his foot in between a girl’s legs apparently. The girl saw the camera on his shoe and confronted him and said ‘is that a camera?’

“Apparently he was really uncomfortable and he walked out.

“He had been messaging a few of my girls at all times of the night and when you put it all together you can see that it’s a bit strange and a bit weird.”

“I’m absolutely disgusted to be fair," he added.

"I’ve got girls who I am responsible for and who should feel safe in a working environment and defend them if they need it. But we didn’t feel that we would have to defend them from the guy who comes in to deliver the post.

“For a town like this and the standards that we have I just feel that this needed reporting.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Royal Mail expects the very highest standards of behaviour from all its employees and any breach of these standards may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal."

Royal Mail confirmed that the individual concerned – who they would not name - had since left the business.
