ONE Knutsford motorist thought he had been caught speeding this week – only to find out the 'officer' was one of Mobberley's famous scarecrows with a radar gun.
The festival – featuring a host of impressive scarecrow creations – is currently running and will end on October 15.
But for one Mobberley Road resident, who didn't wish to be named, it was a nasty surprise when he passed through the village.
"I was doing about 38mph in the 30mph zone and then saw this figure in a flourescent jacket holding a speed gun," he said.
"I slowed down but not in enough time and spent the next hour or so sulking over my lunch about the points I'd be getting on my licence.
"It was while heading home from Mobberley to Knutsford that I realised I'd been duped by a scarecrow! It felt bizarre and hilarious to be caught off guard by an 'officer' made of straw but it made its point, made me think and was as effective as any police speeding campaign.
"It's also made me wonder and chuckle to myself about how many other drivers have been caught out by this diligent, 24 hour speed watcher!"
