A SKATE day proved a huge hit with the youths of Holmes Chapel on Sunday September 7.

Holmes Chapel Parish Council and PCSO Jill Cope organised the day following requests for facilities for the youngsters who enjoy skating and BMX biking.

A grant was secured from Cheshire East Council to part fund the event, with the parish council providing the remainder.

Shops in the area, in particular Sainsbury’s, provided some free refreshments to the teens.

Nicola Clarke, clerk of the council, said an average of 50 youngsters turned out for the event throughout the day.

She added: “Facilities for the youths of the village have been in the top five of every survey conducted and, although this was a one off, hope that it will show the residents that this sort of facility would be used well.

“Finding a plot of land in Holmes Chapel to erect a skate park is the next hurdle. We have received some lovely comments from residents and skaters thanking us for putting on the event.”
