CHESHIRE East's council leader is set to meet with police bosses to discuss a report that criticised the constabulary and the way it recorded its crimes.

Council Leader Clr Michael Jones said: “Cheshire East is organising a meeting with the Chief Constable of Cheshire, Simon Byrne and the Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer following the recent HMIC report on the recording of crimes, including rape and complaints and to seek inter-agency assurances following the Rotherham abuse scandal.

“The council has a high level of confidence in the Constabulary and we are looking to make sure they are given full support to make sure all crime is dealt with in a clear and proper manner.

“I have red in-depth the most recent national HMIC report and the report published back in August and whilst there are concerns, it has been admitted by the Police that there are improvements to be made and I am optimistic these improvements will be made.

“I applaud the rapid response by the PCC and Chief Constable to my request to embrace further inter-agency working and collaboration and commit Cheshire East Council to work with police personnel to ensure we are working with partners to safeguard vulnerable children and troubled families everywhere.

“I am confident that the desire of our Police and Cheshire East Council to work together will lead to a new dawn of greater collaboration to ensure protection of vulnerable adults and children.”
