THE red carpet will be rolled out at the Victoria Club for the upcoming premiere of The Holmes Chapel Community Cinema (HC3).

The newly-formed community cinema will be screening its debut film, period drama ‘Belle’, at the club on Friday September 18.

The community cinema, which aims to screen one film a month, is selling tickets for the 7.30pm showing for £5 each.

HC3 has enlisted the help of mobile cinema service Reels on Wheels, who will be providing the big screen, projection, sound equipment and most importantly, the Hollywood hits.

Bill Bowers, treasurer of the HC3 committee, said: “The present situation, if people want to go to the cinema they have to travel at least eight miles to Crewe, Knutsford of Northwich. It’s quite a trek, particularly on a dark night, and the prices are quite high when you get there.

“We are showing films on the doorstep, within walking distance for a lot of people. It’s just £5 for a ticket and people can have a drink in the bar before or after the film and have a chat with friends.

“We are trying to make it a sociable event for the community rather than just buying a ticket and sitting down to watch a film.”

HC3 was formed in response to the large number of replies to a Holmes Chapel Parish Council questionnaire on ‘What We Want for Holmes Chapel’ , which indicated desire for a community cinema.

The parish council asked a group of volunteers to set this up on a non-profit basis and a start-up grant has been provided by Cheshire East Council.

Full details of the screening on September 18 can be found on the community cinema’s dedicated website, hc3.uk. Tickets will be available at the door or advanced tickets can be bought from Chethams shop in Holmes Chapel.
