PART of one of the main routes into Holmes Chapel is set to be shut for one week from next Thursday.

Drivers are being urged to plan their journeys carefully from Thursday, August 28 as the council closes a part of the A54 in Holmes Chapel for a week.

A section of the A54 Middlewich Road, Holmes Chapel, will be completely closed to traffic every night for seven nights.

The weekends will not be affected and resident’s access will be provided.

The 1km stretch from Junction 18 M6 to 70m past Chester Road will be closed for essential resurfacing works from 8pm until 5am each day, but the road will be fully open outside of these times.

Lane one on the off slips from the M6 at junction 18 will also be closed to form single file traffic onto the roundabout.

There are diversions in place and motorists are being warned that this will add time to their journeys, to access Holmes Chapel, drivers are advised to leave the M6 at junction 18 and follow the diversion.

The planned diversion is via: A54 Holmes Chapel Rd; A533 Booth lane/London Road/Middlewich Road; A534 Old Mill Lane; A5022 Holmes Chapel Road; A50 London Road/Dog Lane; and A54 Chester Road.
