AN open day due to be held at Knutsford Fire Station has been cancelled due to the national strikes being held by the Fire Brigade Union.
The event, scheduled for September 7, has been called off by Cheshire Fire and Rescue, for the foreseeable future because of the uncertainty caused by the national strikes called by the Fire Brigades Union.
Two open days at other stations in the county have already had to be cancelled at short notice because of the industrial action, so to minimise further disruption, future station events will be cancelled until the dispute is resolved.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The decision is regrettable as we know how much the events are enjoyed by both local residents and our staff, but the circumstances of the industrial action leave us with no alternative. "Should the strikes end soon then we will look to reschedule events where possible."
