A ROSTHERNE business didn’t let torrential rain and mud get in the way when they volunteered to help rescue a nearby Mere from rogue weeds last month.
Employees from property consultancy and management company Meller Braggins Estates Plus volunteered to spend an afternoon working with Bollin Environmental Action and Conservation group (BEACON).
The conversation group works to control and eradicate non-native invasive species such as Himalayan Balsam, Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed within the Bollin catchment.
Meller Braggins Estates Plus is a partner of BEACON and choose to volunteer time to the group.
Employees, armed with tools and water proofs, helped clear a large area of Himalayan Balsam that was growing in Harpers Bank Wood, adjacent to Rostherne Mere.

Peter Wain, Meller Braggins Estates Plus director, said: “We manage a number of estates locally and realise the effects that invasive that invasive species have on the farm land and potential development sites.”
