THERE was cause for double celebration at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School (HCCS) this morning, as students picked up 'best-ever' A-level results from the newly-completed Sixth Form facilities.

This year, the pass rate for A-levels at HCCS was 100 percent, with 34 percent of grades A*-A, and 83 percent at grades A.

As well as reporting impressive results across the board, a total of 13 students achieved A or A* in all of their subjects.

Headteacher Denis Oliver said: “I have seen most of our students to congratulate them in person for their outstanding success however I would like to take this opportunity to let them and their teachers know how delighted I am for their achievements.

“This particular group of students did extremely well in their GCSE examinations so we expected good A-level results this year.

"However they have significantly exceeded our expectations and have built themselves very strong foundations for whatever educational, training or career path they choose to follow.”

Cambridge-bound Peter Welch, HCCS's Head Boy, is 'over the moon' with his impressive results.

The Over Peover resident achieved four A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

"It was what my teachers expected me to get and I didn't want to let them down," he told the Guardian.

"When I saw the results, it was unbelievable. It was really what I had hoped for. I felt a mix of elation and relief."

Peter will be taking up his place at Cambridge to read Engineering.

Other high-fliers include Edward Wardle, who achieved four A*s, and Oliver Loney, Tom Male, and Sam Rodger, each of whom secured three A*s.

The excellent performance in A-level examinations coincided with the completion of the school’s new Sixth Form College facilities.

Director of Sixth Form, Claire Abbott said: “We are extremely proud of our fantastic new Sixth Form College and Arts Facility that will open in September. This will provide our students with outstanding facilities on a much larger scale than previously enjoyed.

“There will be dedicated areas for independent study with brand new ICT facilities, a group study area, social area and café, as well as more Sixth Form only teaching spaces. This will all enhance the learning experience for our Sixth Form students.”

Enrolment into the Sixth Form for 2014 takes place on Thursday August 21 between 9am and 1pm. Visit hccs.info for more information.
