I would like to congratulate the members of the Holmes Chapel U3A History Group who put on the magnificent commemoration of the First World War over the weekend.
It was of particular interest for me to see pictures of my great grandfather, Willie Davies, on his traction engine; and my grandfather, also Willie Davies, in his army uniform. He was invalided out of the war after being gassed and spent many months recovering in the hospital at Somerford Hall.
Many other people will have had similar feelings about their family members but, clearly, the commemoration of the war and the history of Holmes Chapel was of great interest to a lot of people. There was so much to take in that I went on Saturday and Sunday; on both occasions the event was very well attended.
The Group have put together a fantastic record and one which can be kept for the future.
