HEALTH visitors have been recognised by global organisation UNICEF for their efforts to promote breastfeeding among Knutsford mums.

The health visitors, employed by East Cheshire NHS Trust and working in partnership with Cheshire East Council, have been awarded the charity's prestigious 'Baby Friendly Award'.

In order to achieve accreditation, they had to demonstrate to UNICEF inspectors that they use best practice to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding in the area.

The health visitors were also recognised for strengthening mother-baby and family relationships.

"We are delighted that health visitors from East Cheshire NHS Trust have achieved full Baby Friendly status," said UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Programme Director, Sue Ashmore.

“Surveys show us that most mothers want to breastfeed but don’t always get the support they need. Mothers in central and eastern Cheshire can be confident that their health visitors will provide high standards of care.”
