THE Mere Golf Resort and Spa is celebrating National Afternoon Tea Week next week with the launch of new menus created with both men and women in mind.

Visitors to the 150-acre resort during August 11 to 17 will be able to enjoy an afternoon at The Mere, whilst indulging in diverse menus and a selection of the finest pastries the region has to offer.

Marking a celebration of the quintessentially great British tradition, the menus have been designed by executive head chef Mark Walker.

Mark said: "Afternoon tea tends to be viewed with a female bias. However over the last few months we have noticed an increasing number of men taking afternoon tea in the resort, both over business meetings and for more informal get-togethers with friends.”

"We wanted to put a twist on the more traditional menu and introduce some mouth watering recipes with chaps in mind. We came up with the idea of replacing cucumber sandwiches with mini cheese burgers with chilli jam relish, mini hot dogs with onions and mini Yorkshire puddings with roast beef; we've even thrown in a iced cider shot."

For the ladies, The Mere has put a twist on its traditional afternoon tea and introduced the Pimms Afternoon Tea. The menu includes a selection of finger sandwiches, baked fruit scones, a summer selection of cakes and Mini Mere Mess, its version of a classic Eton Mess alongside a jug of Pimms.
