BUDDING Mary Berrys and Paul Hollywoods are being invited to thrust their baking skills under the spotlight on Sunday August 3 – and all for a good cause.

The Great Knutsford Bake Off is one of the many tasty events put on by Knutsford Town Mayor Neil Forbes in a bid to raise money for his chosen charity Knutsford GROW and St John’s Wood Lunch Club.

There are only a few days left to register for the competition and winners can get their hands on prizes such as Waitrose vouchers, trophies and certificates.

Clr Forbes said: “This is a great event for bakers young and old to display their talents, win a prize and be crowned Knutsford’s best amateur baker. Even if you can’t bake you can still support the event by coming along to purchase a slice of cake – or three.”

The event, which is being sponsored by Waitrose, has two entry categories for under 16s, who are allowed help from a parent or guardian, and over 16s, who must submit their own work.

Those registered can then bring their cakes along to the Old Town Hall to display between 10am and 10,30am on Sunday August 3 before the judging takes place. The winners will be announced at 11.30am on the same day.

The ‘grown-ups’ cakes will then be sold to the general public to raise funds for the charities.

All entrants must complete a registration form, which can be obtained from the town council website or offices, and pay their entrance fee of £5 or £7.50 by Friday July 25.
