8:22pm

Well that concludes our live coverage of the Open Championship. It has been an absolutely fantastic tournament and we hope we have kept you up-to-date with all your Open needs.

Thanks and goodnight (we need a big sleep now),

From the number of photographers present for the trophy presentation, I'd say that photograph of Rory lifting the Claret Jug will be on the front of a lot of newspapers and websites!

During his post-victory press conference, Rory said he would love to see the Open return to Hoylake.

He said: "I think Hoylake is a great course to be on the Open rota, it's a good test.

"It's a great golf course, it's a very fair golf course and I'd like to comeback here in the future for sure."

He added: "Even though I'm a Man Utd fan in these parts I've had great support all week and I just want to thank them for that."

Final attendance figures are in.

42,149 people attended the fourth and final day of the Open on Sunday which, adding to the previous days' attendance, takes the total number of spectators up to 202,917.

Not quite at the level it was in 2006 - when 228,976 people attended - but more than at Royal Lytham in 2012 when just 174,953 people attended.

This is McIlroy's third major in as many years. He finished with 271 today.

6:38pm

McIlroy says he thinks the bet his dad made 10 years ago still stands. He bet that he won win the Open by the time he was 25. That's a £50,000 bet!

10:19am

For those who haven't yet arrived at the course, it's worth a mention that traffic was queuing heading towards Hoylake from the M53 Moreton Spur. Car parks around the course are filling up fast. Spectators using the Green car park are being diverted to the Orannge car park.

10:16am

After the weather yesterday - which has left the media centre looking a little mucky - we should be in for a spot of sunshine today. Here's hoping!

10:14am

We have just been handed the latest attendance figures. 39,398 people attended the third round on Saturday, taking the total number of spectators up to 160,768 for the week so far.

That's 24,051 less than this time in 2006 but it's 22,065 more than had attended Royal Lytham at this point in 2012.

Judging by the number of people passing through the gates this morning, and the number of vehicles filling the various car parks, I reckon today could push those numbers a little closer to the 2006 levels.

10:11am

Of course, one of the main talking points on social media was the arrival of Hollywood star Samuel L Jackson. He spent the day at Royal Liverpool, tweeting this selfie at the entrance to the course. Will he be here agian today? We hope so!

10:10am

Rory McIlroy has a six point lead going into the fourth and final round. He's the favourite to win and tees off at 2.40pm alonsgside America's Rickie Fowler. Who do you think/want to lift the Claret Jug? Tweet @emmajanerigby
