IT is not every day that an A-list movie star contacts you in the hope of getting their hands on one of your sculptures.

But that was the case for chainsaw wood sculptor Andy Burgess, from Mobberley, who was amazed when Dame Judi Dench got in touch to commission a sculpture for her home.

Andy’s work caught the Skyfall actress’s eye while she was watching The Alan Titchmarsh Show on one of her rare days off – he appeared on the show in February for a live sculpting demonstration and to show off his pieces.

Andy, who has also appeared on DIY SOS and worked with presenters Nick Knowles and Chris Beardshaw, sculpted a red squirrel at the request of Dame Judi and delivered the finished piece to her home in south east of England in May.

“She was amazingly welcoming,” said Andy.

“An absolutely fantastic person.

“She really loved the squirrel and potentially might want to order more.”

Dame Judi is not only famous person Andy has sculpted for. He has also produced a sculpture for actor and comedian John Thomson, of Cold Feet fame.

Andy and brother Tim, a fellow sculptor, also sculpted a wooden throne which they presented to HRH The Queen for her Jubilee.

HAVE you seen an owl lurking around in the trees in south Manchester?

Andy has set up a social media treasure hunt and has hidden an oak owl on a tree somewhere in the south Manchester area. The owl is around 10ins-12ins high and attached to a tree trunk, about 6ft in the air.

Andy has been putting out some odd clues out on twitter (@BurgessSculptor) and the first person to send him a photo of them standing next to the owl on the tree, wins it!
