DAREDEVIL charity supporter Kristy Mulrooney faced her fears head-on when she plunged 14,000 feet.

Kristy, 27, jumped into the wide blue yonder above The Lake District as part of a triple challenge in aid of a patient group charity.

Bpositive supports adults with acute leukaemia, and Kristy has set herself a target of raising £5,000 for the charity.

Kristy works for Knutsford media communications company Hartley Taylor, and launched her challenge by entering the Beaverbrooks 10-kilometre run along the promenade at Blackpool.

She followed this by taking part in the Freckleton Half Marathon around the Fylde coast, and the finale was a tandem skydive.

To boost Kristy’s fundraising three colleagues took part in the 5K Race for Life at Tatton Park, and the company organised a pub quiz at The White Bear in Knutsford, which raised £504.

Bpositive has a special meaning for Kristy, as her auntie Sue Goodfellow, from Warton in Lancashire, was diagnosed with leukaemia in November, and has undergone a stem cell transplant.

“As well as fundraising I want to raise awareness of the charity, as it’s the first of its kind in the UK, and was set up to support adults fighting or affected by acute leukaemia,” said Kristy, from Warton.

“It’s so rare for adults to get acute leukaemia, and patients can often feel isolated in their battle.”

Kristy is “petrified” of flying, but would do a skydive again after literally throwing herself into the challenge.

“I was nervous in the days leading up to the skydive, but on the day I was weirdly calm and loved every minute of it,” she said.

“I fell 7,000 feet in 40 seconds before the parachute opened.

“The half marathon was on one of the hottest days of the year, and there was no shade – it was hideous.

“I ran the 10k event in Blackpool with my husband Stuart, and the course took us past the Pleasure Beach and the tower.”

The women who took part in the Race for Life were Aimee Gilbert from Knutsford, Hannah Johnston from Hazel Grove and Jo Wheeler from Stockton Heath.

Woods butchers, Le Salon beauty treatment centre, Inspire Printing, Gareth West, PARMA, Shamoli’s, Deli Boys, Mae Graw and Gusto were thanked for donating prizes for the quiz.

Kristy has raised more than £1,300 towards her target, and is planning further fundraisers. Anyone who would like to support her can visit www.bpositive.org.uk/kristys-triple-challenge.html.
