TEENAGER Scarlet Broadbent will receive the red carpet treatment on what promises to be a memorable day for the 13-year-old.

Scarlet is to be crowned as Plumley Rose Queen at Plumley Village Fun Day, which will feature a vintage theme to mark the 60th anniversary of the village hall.

Scarlet’s retinue will wear vintage style dresses and outfits, and everyone else in the procession will be dressed as 50s celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Elvis Presley.

There will be vintage tractors and a vintage fire engine, and vintage car owners are invited to take part in the procession.

For cake fans, there is a vintage era Bake Off, and people interested in entering are asked to bring their cakes to the village hall by noon for judging later in the day.

The fun day takes place on Saturday, with the procession starting from noon at Moorcroft, parading to the village hall for the official opening by Knutsford mayor Clr Neil Forbes.

Scarlet lives in Plumley, and attends Park Lane Special School in Macclesfield.

“We are thrilled for our daughter to be the village rose queen, and it will be a special occasion for our family,” said Scarlet’s mum Elizabeth.

“We will be very excited to see Scarlet walk down the red carpet.”

Scarlet will be crowned by retiring queen Lena Fitton, and watching the youngster enjoy her big day will be her proud parents and grandparents.

Scarlet’s retinue features princess Isabel Smith, maid of honour Imogen Sanderson, attendants, flower buds and flower girls, sceptre bearer, sword bearer and crown bearer.

Scarlet’s grandmother made the vintage style dresses for the princess and maid of honour, and Helen Hodgson and Lynsey Peacock made sashes for the attendants.

Following the official opening, there will be a range of attractions, including folk band Bo Weavil, dancers, a range of craft stalls and 50s games, Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, from Disney’s hit film Frozen, Jerry the Minion, from Despicable Me, and Animalz Takeover, from Winsford.

Anyone who is interested in having a vintage car in the parade is asked to contact Sarah Sanderson on 07554 344420.
