THE first group of Knutsford Hosts received their official badges from Knutsford Town Mayor Neil Forbes at a special welcome event on June 6.

Knutsford Hosts is the new town-wide community volunteering pilot scheme which brings people together as a pool of trained volunteers willing to help and do their bit for the many events, charities and organisations across the town.

“Now we have hosts who are fully trained and ready to help in the town, let us know if your event or organisation could do with a hand during the summer months,” said project coordinator Sarah Flannery, who devised the scheme.

“We’re keen to hear from community organisations who need a hand from the hosts to, for instance, man stalls at summer fairs or help out with providing cover for other volunteers who may be on holiday. We have a range of talents to offer.”

Now the first group of hosts have received their badges, other applications are being processed and training being given.

“We’d welcome more applications,” said Sarah. “One of the great things about being a Knutsford Host is that you can be involved as much or as little as you want to be – there is no pressure to take on more volunteering than you can fit into your busy life.”

Sarah added that the scheme could be particularly attractive for young people who have finished their A level exams and would like to do some voluntary work before going to university or applying to university.

“This is the sort of volunteering which would look fantastic on a CV or university application as hosts can gain the nationally recognised Award in Community Volunteering – at no cost to themselves,” she said.
