A KNUTSFORD grandmother has been honoured with an MBE in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours. Valerie Young, of Bexton Lane, received the honour for her services to the community in Knutsford.

The 72-year-old has been involved with numerous organisations in Knutsford since she moved to the town with her husband Ian in the 1970s.

Valerie, who has three children and six grandchildren, is a former town councillor and was town mayor in 1980/81.

Amongst other things, she has read for the Knutsford Talking Newspaper, been involved in the Knutsford town twinning with Montmorency, and is a former governor of Bexton Primary School.

She also used to raise money for the 5th Knutsford Scouts through keep fit classes.

She is currently a trustee of the Marjorie Hurst Trust and is co-ordinator and driver for the Knutsford Good Neighbours Scheme. Congratulate Valerie by visiting the website and leaving a comment.
