KNUTSFORD Town Council has handed over its first Community Grants of the new financial year.

The Council Grant Scheme offers funding to bodies which enhance the lives of Knutsford residents and this year, the grants budget has been increased to £20,000.

Three Knutsford organisations, Knutsford Royal May Day, Knutsford in Bloom and Egerton Pre-School, have successfully applied for grants so far this year. The council has a budget remaining of £10,470 and is encouraging applications from groups in the area.

Knutsford Town Mayor Neil Forbes said: “We believe there are a number of local community groups that could benefit from the grant scheme, either for specific items they need to purchase or events they want to put on.

“I would encourage them to complete the form on the council website and apply if their group and plans bring benefit to the Knutsford community.

“As a council we are pleased to be able to support such worthwhile work.”
Clr Forbes presented cheques to the successful applicants at the town council offices on May 22.

Knutsford Royal May Day received £2,800 for the sponsorship of the grandstand for the 150th Royal May Day, along with additional and associated costs for the historic event.

Knutsford in Bloom received £6,450 to fund their floriculture work around the town and cover the costs of competition entries, and Egerton Pre-School received £280 to enable them to purchase a tablet for educational purposes.
